 Karen Edwards Counselling

A registered counsellor with more than 25 years of experience supporting individuals, families and parents across community services, therapeutic settings and in private practice. I have worked with a wide range of presentations, including trauma, domestic violence, abuse, addiction, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, parenting, emotional overwhelm and the impact of long‑term pressure and stress.

My early work in community counselling gave me a strong understanding of the complexity people experience, their courage and how important it is to offer a safe space that is respectful, practical and centred on each person’s needs. I learned that people arrive with different histories, responsibilities and coping strategies, and that effective support needs to meet each person where they are at.

As my work developed, I recognised that talk‑based therapy alone didn’t always reach the deeper layers; the patterns held in the body, the beliefs formed early in life and the protective responses shaped by stress and trauma. This led me to integrate somatic approaches, nervous‑system‑informed work, kinesiology and PSYCH‑K® into my practice.

My professional experience has also been shaped by raising a child with a disability, which gave me insight into the emotional and practical realities families navigate. I have supported parents who have children with challenging behaviours, regulation difficulties and ongoing demands that come with caring for a child with additional needs.

I also spent many years working in the domestic and family violence sector, gaining a clearer understanding of trauma, risk, safety, relational patterns and the long‑term effects of living in high‑stress/risk environments.

I work with a range of evidence based and evidence informed mind–body modalities, including Clinical Hypnotherapy, EMDR, EFT, CBT, DDP, Narrative Therapy, somatic processing, kinesiology and PSYCH‑K®.

Why muscle testing matters in this work

Most people try to change their life from the neck up — thinking differently, trying harder, talking it out.

But the body holds the patterns.

The body remembers the shutdown, the fear, the people‑pleasing, the bracing, the self‑doubt, the “I’m not good enough,” the “I have to cope,” the “I can’t relax.”

Muscle testing helps us access the part of you that has been carrying those patterns quietly, often for years.

It allows us to:

  • find the root cause instead of circling the symptoms

  • work with the subconscious where the real shifts happen

  • release stored tension and emotional charge that talking can’t reach

  • identify the exact belief your system is organised around

  • support your nervous system to regulate and settle

  • create change that feels embodied, not forced

Clients often say it feels like their body is finally being heard — and once that happens, things begin to shift in a way that feels natural, relieving and deeply grounding.

What clients often experience through this work

As the nervous system settles and old patterns loosen, clients describe:

  • a sense of coming back into themselves

  • less reactivity and more choice

  • emotional steadiness where there used to be overwhelm

  • clarity around what they feel and why

  • a softening of long‑held tension

  • a feeling of safety that doesn’t feel fragile

  • the ability to breathe more deeply, think more clearly and respond more calmly

This is the kind of change that doesn’t just alter your thoughts — it changes how you feel in your body, how you show up in your relationships, and how you move through your life.

This is healing that is lived, not just talked about.  And for many people, it’s the first time the change actually lasts.
